One of our customer from Saudi Arabia visit our shop to have inquire about his faulty external hard disk that eventually been submitted to other shops but unfortunately not able to do it. So as he said he's been searching for a place to do the  Data Recovery in a professional works with a machine for doing a diagnosis.

Telling the story of his external hard drive that is now not working, as he said the hard disk was on the table only while he is working but then accidentally tapping for the reason of fell from standing. On just that happened the datas now are on danger. Upon re-operating the hard disk, as he said there is a power but not detecting by the computer and having a sound that familiar with a hardware problems which is the ticking sound.

We have received the case and immediately do checked the conditions: Upon opening the external  hard drive and have find out that its a Helium Hard drive.

Helium Hard Drives

 EXPLAINED

A helium hard drive is a hard drive (HDD) that contains helium gas instead of oxygen and has a hermetically sealed case.

Question from the explained:

Why fill the hard drive with helium?
When it comes to blowing air to achieve buoyancy, helium comes in second place and is generally the fuel of choice over hydrogen because it is not flammable.

Start Now

In addition to significant capacity and improved internal performance, the use of helium hard drives provides greater energy efficiency. Molecules vibrate less against each other and produce less heat; This means helium drives run cooler than air-filled hard drives and require less power and cooling.   Another advantage of helium-filled hard drives is that they have less turbulence. Helium-filled drives produce less noise. This less volatile environment ultimately allows for more reliable, stable drive operation.

The negative side of having Helium Hard Drives!

In addition, helium hard drives often have seven or more thin platters, making them particularly resistant to dust and other contaminants. Dust can cause serious data loss because each portion of disk space holds many megabytes of data. Also  the problem with helium hard drives is that they are very expensive to produce and have a limited service life. So be careful of having a helium hard drive. There is a negative effect of helium that  inhaling pure helium can cause death by asphyxiation in just a few seconds. Inhaling helium from a pressure tank can also cause a gas or air embolism, which is an air bubble that enters an artery and blocks it. Blood vessels may rupture and bleed.

For the client case:

The Western Digital External 18TB Helium Hard Drive was having a hardware problem so at this point. This will be costing a lot of money and may take time  to do the recovering of datas. The Helium hard drive - hardware problem are hard and difficult to deal with.
